1The Clash – Give ‘Em Enough Rope
They’ve been my favorite band since ever. Joe Strummer is one of my biggest idols, and thanks to him and his songs, I am who I am today. When I was young, they made me realize how important is what you say and convey through your songs, and this is something I’ve valued more and more over the years, making songs that aren’t empty. It’s hard for me to choose between any of their first three albums, but I finally picked this one because I think it’s the most forgotten by people, and it’s a complete masterpiece.
2The Damned – Machine Gun Etiquette
Along with The Clash, my favorite band since I can remember. It’s also my father’s and my brother’s favorite band, so I’ve been listening to them since I was born, and even today they still surprise me and seem like an incredible band. I had this album on repeat on my computer when I first entered elementary school, and to this day, it still blows my mind like the first day.
3The Cramps – Stay Sick!
The Cramps are another of my lifelong favorite bands. I adore the raw and cavernous way their songs sound, which makes me feel like I’m inside a haunted psychiatric hospital in hell. I consider Lux Interior one of the best frontmans in the world, and Poison Ivy is the queen of rock ’n‘ roll and for this to not be recognize is pure sexism!
4David Bowie – The Rise and Fall of Ziggy
Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
Bowie was my favorite singer when I was a child. From the moment I saw him on the cover of one of my father’s music magazines, I fell in love with him and his extravagant look. I didn’t even know if he was a guy or a girl. I remember having a CD with only Bowie songs, which I’d always take on long trips with my grandmother, and we’d spend the entire journey singing along. When I first saw the live performance of The Motion Picture, I loved the costume changes during the show while the band kept playing, so when I had my chance, I tried to imitate him in my own way hahaha (without the same budget, obviously hahaha).
5Dead Boys – Young, Loud and Snotty
Just with the name of this album seems wild to me. This is an album straight to the jugular, the way I love it, but with its romantic side that all tough guys have, which I love even more. Stiv is another of my biggest influences overall, I’ve always thought he was incredible as a frontman, unpredictable and dangerous, I adore him.
6UK Subs – Another Kind of Blues
Another band that’s part of the soundtrack of my childhood. I remember being in the dining room of my house, listening to the music my father played in his room at full volume, singing along with my brother Eric and making joke translations in Spanish of the songs… “Yo tengo Oral B!”
7Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers – L.A.M.F.
An amazing album from start to finish. I love the fast and aggressive rock ‘n’ roll formula, and this album is the literal definition of that. It was the album I learned to play guitar solos with, and I used to imitate Johnny’s moves and poses while playing. I always wanted to have that “heartbreaker” attitude, haha.
8Private Function – Whose Line Is It Anyway?
My favorite actual band. They’re an incredible burst of energy and always hilarious, not to mention they’re the sweetest people. Above all, they have what I look for in a band, which is danger and uncertainty, you never know what they’re going to do, but it’s always going to be the best show you’ve ever seen.
9Parálisis Permanente – Los Singles
Parálisis Permanente is to me the best Spanish band of all time, and one of the best post-punk bands in general. They were one of the most important bands in the Spanish punk scene, no one had done anything like it before. Eduardo Benavente has a personality I find unique and amazing. The band’s aesthetic, lyrics, and sound… everything is mind-blowing, and it marked a before and after in my adolescence.
10The Kids – The Kids
A band I’ve been really hooked on lately. This album makes me feel like I’m 15 again, and gives me the urge to go out and cause chaos. It’s pure teenage spirit, rawness, and swagger. LOVE IT!
