Obstruktion ist eine frisch gegründete Band aus Göteborg, die bereits zuvor in diverse Hardcore-Combos in Schweden tätigt war. Für den 26. Februar 2021 hat das Quartett nun ihr Debütalbum Monarchs Of Decay angekündigt, das über Isolation Rec. erscheinen wird. Wir nahmen die Platte zum Anlass, uns von Gitarrist Matthias fünf Bands aus Göteborg näher vorstellen zu lassen – und ab dafür!

My name is Mattias Rasmusson. I play guitar for Obstruktion out of Göteborg, Sweden. I thought I’d start out with two bands that share members with Obstruktion.
1Waste
Waste has been around quite a while now. Representing Göteborg Straight Edge with a bit of a Terror-ish sound I guess. Some of you might be familiar with them since they’ve done a bit of touring the last couple of years.

2Disavow
Disavow is another Straight Edge band out of the city. Musically I’d say they’re more on the punk side of hardcore I guess. Both bands are connected to Refuse Records.

3Oak
Oak is a band I’ve seen many times over years, having done a couple of tours with them. To my ears they’re doing their own thing, which is something I always value highly. Metallic, emotional, chaotic, sometimes a little screamo-ish maybe. Always sounding massive live. I believe they’re working on an LP. Keep your eyes peeled for that!

Fredag den 13:e is another band I’ve seen a lot of times and they’re always so good. If swedish crusty, catchy hardcore/punk is your thing you’ll love them. Fantastic people too!

5Repoman
Their current singer is also in Repoman, which might be the best band to have come out of the city, doing their own thing entirely and in lack of ways to describe them I guess they were sort of in the same ballpark as Converge. Phenomenal musicians and amazing live band. Only got to put out an ep (on Monument Records). Check it out if you get the chance!
6Obstruktion – Monarchs Of Decay (2021)
