Ten Ton Hammer wird am 04. Dezember 2020 eine neue EP mit dem Titel New Failures vorlegen, die über Knife Hits erscheinen wird. Wir nahmen den bevorstehenden Output zum Anlass Sänger John Lowe, der auch als Gitarrist von Rock Bottom und Raw Force tätigt war bzw. ist, Bands aus Philadelphia vorstellen zu lassen:

My name is John Lowe, I do vocals for Ten Ton Hammer and play guitar in Rock Bottom and Raw Force. I live in Los Angeles, CA now, but I grew up and cut my teeth in the Philadelphia, PA hardcore scene. It’s no secret that this is one of the best places for hardcore in the world, and I’ll try to include some current and less mainstream bands from the area that I love.
1Drowse
Drowse incorporates a lot of awesome hardcore punk influence with a goth vibe and matching lyrics. They sound like a harder version of Philly favorites like Ink and Dagger or Knives Out to me. Dance in the Decay is one of the best things to happen in 2020.

2Soul Glo
Not only is Soul Glo the best „Scramz“ style band out there right now, they are one of the most important punk bands doing the damn thing. They use chaotic riffs and a hyper-speed vocal style to share the experience of racism in America and hypocrisy within the punk scene, among other challenging and necessary subjects. Their new record reminds me of Neil Perry, but with a hip hop song included.

Big Coffin Hunters is basically a record made for me. The title references the Steven King series „The Dark Tower“, the songs play out like classic 90’s Victory Records ass beaters, and the lyrics are dark and personal. If you ever wanted a more moshy version of Bloodlet and Deadguy, these guys have you covered.

This is the only Los Angeles band I’m including, mostly because two of their members also moved here from Pennsylvania. Entry sounds like kick ass fast hardcore with some D-beat influence and mosh parts, and Detriment is one of my favorite records of 2020.

Ok, I cheated, Ground is probably not a hardcore band. They are are the forefront of False Grind, matching fast as hell grindcore riffs with hard Northeast Hardcore breakdowns. Still, Mourn Innocence is full of assbeaters that hardcore kids will love. They will probably get mad at this comparison, but think Napalm Death with Hatebreed mosh parts and some Weekend Nachos vibes thrown in.
